Lesson 23: “Seek Learning, Even by Study and Also by Faith

D&C 88:118 And as all have not ^afaith, seek ye diligently and ^bteach one another words of ^cwisdom; yea, seek ye out of the best ^dbooks words of wisdom; seek learning, even by study and also by faith.

Elder Russell M. Nelson of the Quorum of the Twelve said: “Because of our sacred regard for each human intellect, we consider the obtaining of an education to be a religious responsibility. … Our Creator expects His children everywhere to educate themselves” (in Conference Report, Oct. 1992, 5; or Ensign, Nov. 1992, 6).

Apologetics does not "apologize" for something as you might think based on the word, but is an actual "defense" of the subject, responding to questions or attacks on a belief.  Christian apologetics has been around since the time of the Savior. Mormon apologetics is a field that defends the church from the anti-mormon crowd, answering their questions and attacks.
